Kitten wants…

Synopsis:

Kitten wants lots of kittenish things, but what’s with the engines, gadgets and lasers? Kittens have no place planning tips to outer space, or have they?

Why I like This Book:

A cute unconventional kitten and a story style that reminds me a little of another cat series I love by Deborah Underwood. Here the voice talking to the kitten is its little girl owner (in Deborah’s series it is the narrator talking to Cat). Kitten (and puppy) are big dreamers and undeterred by correction or convention, they make the impossible come true. Young children should certainly be encouraged to let their imaginations run wild with this story.

Lori Nichols brings spunk and life to the animate and inanimate objects using dip pen and ink and coloring digitally. Check for some great foreshadowing in the earlier illustrations. This story of “No, no, you can’t…” that every toddler will be able to relate to. The repetition and rhythm make this a great read-aloud.

Activities/Resources:

Check out the great book trailer here.

A great activity for this would be to come up with for example what a baby sibling could and could not have.

Each week a group of bloggers reviews picture books we feel would make great educational reads. To help teachers, caregivers and parents, we have included resources and activities with each of our reviews. A complete list of the thousands of books we have reviewed can be found sorted alphabetically and by topics, here on Susanna Leonard Hill’s website.
