Title: The Thing About Yetis
Author & Illustrator: Vin Vogel
Publisher: Dial Books for Young Readers, 2015
Themes: winter, yetis, summer
Ages: 3-5
Opening:
The thing about yetis is that yetis love winter
Synopsis:
Everyone knows yetis love winter. They love snowball fights and hot chocolate and sledding. But even yetis get the shivers, and even yetis get crabby from all the cold. So here’s a secret about yetis: sometimes they miss summer. They love looking for sea creatures, sliding down watersides on their bellies, building sand castles, and pretending to be Godzilla. Sometimes, they have to bring a little bit of summer to the coldest of winter days.
Why I like this book:
Yeti, is a fuzzy and sweet big critter whose story is perfect for summer and winter. Preschoolers will love this humor whatever the season. Bold bright, colorful with a completely goofy and even poofy yeti.
Activities/resources:
- Build snow yetis in the winter. And paint beach yetis in the summer.
- Check out an interview with the author/illustrator here.
- Pair with No Yeti Yet.

Awww, makes me want to reach out and give a shivering Yeti a hug and a little ray of sunshine. 😀 But will I have to go on a Yeti hunt first?
So cute! I’ve discovered two yeti picture books this year, which is impressive considering I have never ever discovered a yeti picture book in my life. Thanks for the recommendation 🙂
It seems to be yeti season, doesn’t it?
WHAT? I never knew that about yetis! Looking forward to reading this!
Wikipedia is clearly lacking!
What a darling book! Oh gosh and perfect for us here with the snow here in Colorado. I love it and look forward to adding it to my collection of children’s book to inspire me on my illustration journey. 🙂
